Senator Ben Cardin, Foreign Relations Chair, Wants to #LetUkraineStrikeBack
Sep 11
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, issued the following statement after ongoing Russian attacks on civilian targets across Ukraine.
“Vladimir Putin’s relentless attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure is nothing short of horrifying. This week, Russian forces launched ballistic missiles at cities across Ukraine. A Reuters journalist was killed in a Kramatorsk hotel. The Kyiv dam was struck, threatening to flood the city. Russian forces bombarded Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with the goal of freezing civilians this winter. Last month, a children’s hospital with a cancer wing was bombed.
“Given these escalating attacks, the time has come to ease restrictions on Ukrainian’s use of U.S.-provided weapons. Greater flexibility to target Russian military assets will degrade Moscow’s ability to harm the Ukrainian people. The United States must act swiftly to grant these permissions.”
